Seventeen Garner All-Patriot League Track and Field Accolades
Twelve women and five men collect league honors following weekend championships

May 9, 2006

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Patriot League announced 17 Lafayette track and field scholar-athletes to its all-league teams. Twelve women made the list, including a half dozen on the first team. A pair of juniors, Tyler Jones and Travis Hutson, earned first-team status on the men's side to highlight the five mentions overall.

The Lafayette women took third at last weekend's Patriot League Championships, hosted by Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. The third-place outing was the highest finish for the Lafayette women since 1996, prompting the league to name head coach Julio Piazza the 2006 Women's Coach of the Year.

The Patriot League Champion 4x400m relay team all earned mention on the first team. Seniors Deborah Fink, Elizabeth Rybas, Kate Evangelista and freshman Meaghan Darling won the event in 3:51.38, qualifying them for the ECAC Championships.

Lafayette's two individual champions, sophomores Emily Cholak and Leigh Kalinowski, also garnered first-team accolades. Cholak won the triple jump (38' 5 Ã,½") and also climbed the podium with a third-place finish in the long jump (17' 11"). Kalinowski took gold in the high jump, clearing 5' 5".

Evangelista (400m) and Fink (4x800m relay) were also named to the second team. Evangelista's 57.10 mark in the 400 broke the Lafayette record. Joining Fink on the 4x800m relay and gaining second-team recognition were junior Meghan Baker and sophomores Katie Schultes and Brittany Waldron. Schultes earned a double mention, as she also took second in the 5000m run. Sophomores Frances Morro (3000m steeplechase), Kristen Kalinowski (high jump) and Ashley Harbin (hammer) round out Lafayette's second-team members.

Senior Andre Alleyne ran a leg of the 4x100m relay team that earned second drew accolades.

On the men's side, Lafayette finished fourth overall. Jones (shot put) and Hutson (100m) won their respective events to make the first team, while the duo also earned mention on the second team in the 4x100m relay and discus, respectively. Jones bettered his own school record in the shot put with a winning distance of 54' 8 Ã,¼". Meanwhile, senior Andre Alleyne and rookies Shaun Adair and Kyle DeFranceschi joined Hutson on the 4x100m relay and second team. The league also recognized Adair in the long jump.

Qualified Lafayette athletes are set to compete at the men's IC4A and women's ECAC Championship meets on May 12-14 at Princeton. Fink (400m hurdles) and Harbin (hammer) already qualified to participate at the NCAA Regional meet beginning on May 26 in Greensboro, N.C.
